Cette habitation répond au défi d'insérer une famille de 3 enfants dans une habitation R+1 existante très proche du centre ville, mais inadaptée à ce changement : espace trop étroits, manque de chambres, échappée d'escalier problématique, relation au jardin peu engageante... Le projet consiste donc à revoir fondamentalement les structures constructives et spatiales de l'habitation  en s'appuyant sur le niveau de rez-de-chaussée existant et à élever l'habitation sur deux niveaux (R+2).

Cette surélévation a conduit au choix de techniques constructives particulières (ossature métallique, planchers collaborants) pour limiter le poids de la nouvelle partie sur les structures existantes. Une traversée spatiale complète assure un lien depuis la rue vers le jardin, configuration typique de la rue pierreuse. L'étage bénéficie d'une vue large sur le jardin et le paysage bucolique de Pierreuse.
